River Crossing and River Place on the Fox Construction!!
The Village oversaw the construction of River Crossing Condominiums and the River Place on the Fox redevelopment projects. River Crossing is a 45 unit age restricted mixed use project on the Village’s east side. This project removed several blighted buildings, adds 7,000 square feet of much needed commercial space to the east side and sets a high architectural standard for Village Center redevelopment. The River Place on the Fox project eliminated four (4) blighted structures and replaces them with 46 new high end town house units, in addition to improving a problem Sundown / Route 31 intersection.
Gateway Plaza Construction Completed!! The Village implemented one of the key recommendations of the Village Center Plan by constructing the Gateway Plaza at State and LaFox Streets. This “mini-park” is located at the main intersection downtown and serves to showcase streetscape improvements planned throughout the downtown. Phase I construction is complete and final improvements will be completed in 2007.
New Land Use Controls for the Downtown!! New land use controls to enhance the appearance and quality of the downtown area were also completed in 2006. When implemented, the Design Guidelines will ensure quality downtown redevelopment. The Village Center TIF District saw its first completely privately funded development in many years with the redevelopment of the gas station at 96 LaFox Street. This new gas station/ convenience store meets the Downtown Design Guidelines adopted by the Village Board in 2003, and removes an old and dilapidated existing structure.
