Found Space: Evanston’s Fountain Square Plaza

What was once a leftover roadway space is now part of Evanston’s new people place.

Just a little over a year ago, Fountain Square’s south plaza was occupied by a couple lanes of traffic and a landscape median. Now with the opening of the south plaza, Downtown Evanston is enjoying a new community gathering space to host fests and events.

On February 10th, Downtown Evanston hosted its “We Love Evanston Party”, the first of many upcoming events in Fountain Square. http://downtownevanston.org/weloveevanstonparty

Fountain Square plaza is comprised of a south plaza and north plaza. The south plaza was opened to the public in fall of 2017. Features of the south plaza include a shared street concept at Orrington and Sherman Avenues, decorative paving, festoon lighting, repurposed Evanston standard light poles, canopy trees, decorative bollards, planter pots and a holiday tree area.

The north plaza is currently under construction. Features of the north plaza include a decorative fountain, Veterans memorial wall, flag pole, custom benches, tree groves, bollards, planters and movable tables and chairs. The north plaza is anticipated to be complete in May 2018.
