Grant Awarded to Girl Scouts

Earlier this year, WTS (Advancing Women in Transportation) chapters nationwide competed for limited funding to enhance their Transportation YOU initiatives. Teska Principal Jodi Mariano advocated on behalf of the Chicago chapter, helping it become one of only four chapters to be awarded a $2,500 grant to develop education transportation programs for Chicago area students. The grant funding will be used to host activities at the Northwest Indiana Girl Scouts’ Journey World, an experiential learning space reflecting Illinois ecosystems and a “mini-city”. This “mini-city” invites students to simulate real job responsibilities in offices that have been visually customized to resemble known institutions and businesses.

  • Transportation YOU is a hands-on, interactive, mentoring program that offers young girls ages 13-18 an introduction to a wide variety of transportation careers. Through the program, WTS chapters work to make a difference in the lives of young girls by offering programs and activities that will spark their interest in all modes of transportation.
