Teska Associates, Inc. assisted Downtown Lemont in evaluating and developing an urban design framework plan for their historic retail district. The established design solution was heavily influenced by Lemont's historic heritage, its commitment to the preservation of structures, and the Village's relationship to the historic I & M Canal Corridor. The assignment included assessments and recommendations that addressed existing traffic patterns and pedestrian routes, land uses, railway crossings, and appearance and streetscape design elements.
Teska was then retained to provide phase one urban streetscape design documents for downtown's Main Street. Elements of the first phase included intimate gathering spaces for residents and visitors as well as flexible park space for the downtown farmers' market. A limestone quarry that once supplied limestone for the canal was opened again to supply the stone for the downtown stonewalls and markers that help to unify the commercial district.
Teska has continued working with the Village of Lemont on streetscape design and construction documents for Stephens Street, another commercial corridor within the heart of Downtown Lemont.
