As a follow-up to work on a Comprehensive Park System Master Plan, Teska Associates, Inc. developed a detailed development plan for Kiwanis Park. The park provides needed recreational facilities to an adjacent apartment complex and other surrounding residential development. A portion of the site was the former City landfill, creating constraints for park development. The design accommodates all ages and abilities with features including a recreational trail, playground, basketball court, a Frisbee golf course, a spray deck, and a skate park.
Land for the park was donated to the City. This donation was then used as the City's match for funding through the State of Illinois OSLAD grant program.
