As a complement to recent and upcoming developments within and surrounding the City of Plano, Teska Associates was retained by the Plano Economic Development Corporation (PEDCO) and the City of Plano to develop a long-range plan for the City Center, including the Route 34 commercial corridor and the traditional downtown area. The purpose of the plan was to establish a framework for future commercial development. Goals of the plan include; protecting Plano's unique character, enhancing business viability, identifying catalyst projects, and creating a consensus action plan to guide short-term and long-term implementation.
Teska Associates teamed up with Business Districts Inc. to create a market based City Center Plan. Key elements of the plan include: facade and building rehabilitation, historic preservation and design guidelines, retailer and restaurant recruitment, advertising to new residents, capitalizing on tourism attractions, redevelopment of Route 34 signalized intersections, attraction of new businesses, wayfinding and signage, and the long-term potential of a Metra commuter station and the Prairie Parkway.
