Leadership Galesburg, a community service organization, spearheaded an effort to gain City and County support with private financial assistance for updating the 1967 comprehensive plan. The joint planning process is unique in that it concurrently addresses Knox County as well as the County seat, the City of Galesburg. Extensive public participation efforts with residents of the County and the City included key person interviews, listening sessions, and a county survey.
The plan includes five special corridor studies which address issues in specific study areas, such as appearance, land use, transportation, and potential development sites. Teska also assisted the City with an update of the Galesburg Park and Recreation Comprehensive Plan, which the firm originally prepared in 1992. The firm is currently assisting the City in development of a Unified Development Ordinance (UDO).
