The Comprehensive Plan for the City of Oregon is a result of a process that the City initiated, through the development of a strategic visioning plan under the auspices of Project Oregon. Established in 1883, the historically significant City of Oregon is referred to as the "Gem of the Rock River Valley." Nestled along rocky cliffs, verdant forests, and the meandering Rock River, Oregon serves as a bit of vanishing rural America. Due to the City's rich history and serene environment, managing the location, type, and quality of growth in Oregon has always been a major concern of both citizens and municipal officials. With assistance from Teska, the City was able to adequately address such concerns as well as provide specific direction on the quality and character of new commercial and residential development; managing revitalization efforts in the downtown; and enhancing riverfront development opportunities. Along with the development of "publicly-driven" design and development guidelines, the 2003 Comprehensive Plan promotes the continued protection of open space through residential clustering, and the preservation of the City's historic urban fabric by advocating the appropriate use of Traditional Neighborhood Design (TND) concepts. Additionally, Teska developed streetscape concepts for Washington Street, which is one of the principal gateways into Oregon's Downtown.
