Teska designers were given a unique challenge when presented with this 190 acre site - design a creative community with a true sense of place on a decomissioned quarry site. In addition, large lakes were required to be created to fill the west end of the property so homes with basements could be constructed.
The result is a creative mixed use development of both single family and multi-family neighborhoods which radiate around a tiered central lake network. The lakes are at different elevations, allowing the water to flow from east to west through weirs and check dams. Walkways around the lakes provide access to the public while still allowing lakefront lots. A large public commons was created at the intersection of Lawnsdale Rd. and River Rd. to provide views into the development, and to provide access to the Fox River. There are a total of 223 single family lots, and 196 multi-family units, situated around 43 acres (23%) of open space.
