On behalf of Kendall College, Teska has been responsible for designing the river walk and landscape plans for their Chicago Campus. Kendall College has a School of Culinary Arts, School of Hospitality Management, and a School of Business. The campus is located on Goose Island and contains a stately 100 year old building that was renovated in 2004.
The working Chicago River that is adjacent to the site is the focus of the design and provided the inspiration for the bold sweeping plant masses found through out the spaces. Native trees and shrubs were used to soften the existing rugged edge of the river and to create safe, intimate, pedestrian oriented spaces.
Teska designers were excited to have the opportunity to incorporate an urban vegetable garden and bread oven into the design. These features will be used by students in class labs and the vegetable garden will enable the college to promote the sustainable practice of using locally grown food.
