Siepmann Realty has a strong reputation of developing environmentally sensitive communities with abundant open space and protection of natural resources. As with previous Siepmann Realty developments, Teska was retained to develop an environmentally sensitive open space master plan for this community in the western suburbs of Milwaukee.
Teska designers carefully located homesites throughout the site while preserving wetlands, woodlands, and other natural resources. Special attention was taken to avoid disturbing steep slopes, and to locate homes and roads without disturbing the rolling terrain of the site. Of the 270 acres, more than 180 acres (or nearly 70 percent) will remain as permanent conservation land. In addition, the entire three-quarter-mile frontage on Hunter's Lake remains undisturbed except for the addition of a small dock.
Other highlights of the plan include the incorporation of the Ice Age Trail that winds through the center of the site along a heavily wooded path, the conservation meadow planted with native prairie plantings, and the preservation of historic buildings and stone walls throughout the site. The project has won a national award from the Urban Land Institute for exceptional residential developments.
