As the historic core of the Village, the Main Street area provides a unique sense of identity for Sugar Grove. Teska Associates, Inc. teamed with Business Districts Inc (BDI) to prepare the Main Street Sugar Grove Plan, which is designed to enhance Sugar Grove's identity by integrating three unique areas: Main Street, a potential south transit oriented district (TOD), and the Route 47 corridor. As the primary element, Main Street would evolve into a mixed use environment with a mixture of homes, shops, restaurants, and other compatible businesses. The potential south TOD would be an extension of Main Street anchored by a potential Metra train station and providing for pedestrian-focused mixed use development. The Route 47 corridor would be the gateway for the Main Street area, reflecting similar design themes and creating a sense of arrival to the heart of Sugar Grove.
The Main Street Sugar Grove Plan outlines the overall vision, future land use plans, and urban design concepts for the study area. The plan also provides a series of stratagies to help guide the Village through the implementation process. Action plans were established for organization and finance, development and redevelopment, business recruitment, marketing, communication, physical structures, and land use. 3D modeling was also created to illustrate massing, building heights, and streetscape detail for the urban design concepts.
