The Village of Plainfield took a proactive approach to planning for two potential transit stations -- one located along Van Dyke Road just south of 143rd Street, and the other located along the south side of Renwick Road between Interstate 55 and U.S. Highway 30. Both sites offer opportunities for Pace suburban bus service and Metra commuter rail service along the proposed STAR line along the EJ&E/CN Railway. The plan was funded by the Regional Technical Assistance Program (RTAP) and administered by the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA).
Along with a team of sub-consultants, Teska Associates, Inc. led an Advisory Committee and the Plainfield community throughout the planning process, researching existing conditions, conducting a market assessment, developing concept plans, evaluating circulation and access, preparing design guidelines, and outlining a set of implementation strategies. All elements of the TOD Plan built a strong foundation of information and design concepts to help Plainfield take the appropriate steps to prepare the Village for enhanced transit opportunities via a Metra station and Pace bus service as well as transit oriented development opportunities presented on each site.
