Green Lake Conference Center & Estates of Lawsonia
Green Lake, Wisconsin

The planning effort created two new 70 acre residential communities that will coexist with the continuing efforts of the conference facilities and grounds.  In addition to the conference facilities, hotel, dining, multiple lodging and residences, the grounds enjoy over 2 miles of lakefront boating and swimming.  The 36 hole Lawsonia Golf Courses and extraordinary historical and environmental features were critical to developing a plan that perpetuates the legacy of this renowned property.  Our firm’s role continued with collaborative recruitment of a compatible residential developer and is following now with entitlement and implementation. Some History... The property was purchased in the 1880’s by the owner of the Chicago Daily News, Victor Lawson and wife Jessie. The Lawsons invested millions in the property over their nearly 30 years of ownership. As a result, the property boasts the largest barn in the state of Wisconsin, an 1850’ original log cabin, an English greenhouse, a boathouse with imported Italian ceramic roof tiles and numerous other unique and historic buildings. The “Lone Tree Farm” became the Lawsonia Country Club after being purchased by H.O. Stone and Company of Chicago. At that time, an 18-hole Scottish-style golf course was developed. This course remains today and is known as the Links. The Country Club soon became synonymous with luxurious summer living.

In 1943 the current owners (Green Lake Conference Center), purchased the property. The American Baptist Board of Education and Publication Society purchased the property with the help from James L. Kraft or Kraft Foods Inc. After nearly 70 years as a conference center, and the addition of a second 18-hole golf course, the Board of Directors has decided to develop and sell select portions of the property to private residents as a planned community, while maintaining the Conference Center and the two 18-hole golf courses.
