Over the past 20 years, Teska Associates, Inc. has had the honor of working with Evanston Northwestern Healthcare on creating a cohesive landscape identity for their hospitals in Evanston, Glenview and Highland Park.
The new Kellogg Cancer Care Center in Evanston addressed issues of blending in with the established single family surroundings, creating a clear and appealing arrival for patients and their caregivers, design of a dramatic interior atrium and lobby plantings and creation of a visually intriguing green roof terrace.
The Kellogg exterior landscape has been specifically designed to blend with the overall Evanston campus master plan while utilizing native indigenous and low maintenance plantings to qualify for LEED certification of the facility.
Inside the new Kellogg buildings, atrium and lobby interior plantings, including potted plants, climbing ivy and ornamental trees have been proposed to direct welcoming views, provide dramatic focal attraction and define private waiting areas.
On the second floor roof garden area, a green roof design has been proposed, using ‘LiveRoof System’ materials. Use of gravel and stepping stones create a pleasant green area to provide not only a good visual effect for patients but also a better micro-climate environment. This multi-usage area is designed to meet LEED compliance.
