On Wednesday, January 26, 2011 from 4:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. in the Madden Room at the Decatur Public Library, the Coalition of Neighborhood Organizations, the City and many Civic and Neighborhood Leaders will be hosting a Workshop. This Workshop is centered around creating a pilot program for an “Urban Demonstration Neighborhood”. If your neighborhood is interested in helping to launch this program or if you would like to participate in making Decatur more sustainable, we invite you to attend.

Decatur has long valued its natural, agricultural and historic heritage. From Lake Decatur to the revitalization of downtown and historic neighborhoods there is a proud tradition of stewardship in Decatur. Sustainable Decatur aims to coordinate a comprehensive approach to achieve environmental, economic, and social impacts to improve the livability and quality of Decatur. Through public discussion, development of resource materials, and a coordinated action plan, Sustainable Decatur is here to get all segments of the City working together to create lasting and measurable change. On May 19, 2010, the City hosted an all day Charrette with community leaders, residents, and the business community to discuss goals and strategies for the Sustainable Decatur Plan. The Charrette concluded in the evening with a public meeting at the Decatur Public Library. Click here for the identified goals and strategies.
