WINNETKA – Winnetka residents gathered at North Shore Country Day School on November 17 to provide input on what they would like to see in Winnetka’s business districts. The workshop was organized by consultants Teska Associates as they work with village officials to develop a new downtown master plan for Winnetka’s struggling business districts.

The workshop was organized around four activity stations set up to gather residents’ ideas. “The more you share the more we learn,” said Michael Blue, project consultant for Teska.

Chicago Tribune: Winnetka’s Downtown Master Plan committee holds first meeting

Residents and business owners who attended the first meeting for Winnetka’s Downtown Master Plan did not just sit and listen; they were expected to participate.

At the Winnetka Community House Monday, Michael Blue of Teska Associates, an Evanston-based planning firm, split roughly 40 attendees into five small groups to discuss exactly what was wrong – and right — with the Downtown Winnetka Elm Street District, Hubbard Woods and Indian Hill.

“I think it was really great. You saw how engaged everyone was,” said Meg Benson, chairperson of the steering committee. “I think our consultants set up a good plan that had a way to get everyone talking and meeting each other, and I think it bodes very well for the future, and I’m excited about that.”
