Site design and zoning coming together to support the Village’s first production farm
As communities grow, forward-thinking municipalities revise their zoning codes to keep pace. In Skokie, a partnership between the Village and the Talking Farm found a balance that supports the farm's vision and meets the needs of the community. Teska landscape architects and community planners provided site planning, landscape architecture, and zoning code text revisions to make way for the first working urban farm in the Village of Skokie.
With site plan and zoning approvals secured, the Talking Farm has the legal footing to realize its vision of community outreach, education, and locally produced food. A growing network of partnerships with local grocers, farm markets, CSAs, and restaurants supports local food and economic development initiatives, with locally grown food supporting businesses in Skokie, Evanston, and beyond.
