Lake in the Hills Comprehensive Plan
Shaping Lake in the Hills' identity around its natural setting and entrepreneurial spirit
As a relatively young suburb, Lake in the Hills has no traditional downtown, which makes building a clear community identity a challenge. Teska worked with the Village to pinpoint the assets that set it apart. Public input highlighted two defining strengths: a distinctive natural setting and a strong entrepreneurial spirit. Together, these became the building blocks for the Village's future branding and economic development.
That nature-focused, business-friendly identity runs through every chapter and recommendation of the Comprehensive Plan. Four subarea concepts, ranging in scale, show how development and redevelopment can reinforce it, with an emphasis on open space, natural areas, and business incubation and attraction. The plan identifies underused commercial sites ready for mixed-use development and builds economic development strategies around local assets like the Village's natural areas and airport.
